A Primer on Primer: What do primers do?
Primers are designed to provide a uniform and attractive finish, making your painting project much easier.

It blocks tannin (a natural extractive of some woods, Cedar, Redwood and darker woods leaving an ink or coffee like stain), water, grease and smoke stains that can bleed through the topcoat.
Also, the primer improves the adhesion of the topcoat, making your paint look better and last longer.
Before using primer or starting your painting project, properly clean your walls. A great product for cleaning is TSP (Trisodium phosphate), found at home improvement stores in Columbus and central Ohio.
